PLANT OF THE MONTH NOVEMBER - HEATHER
Heathers are a great choice for any garden, the winter flowering varieties providing a welcome splash of colour during the coldest months of the year. They are long flowering and low-maintenance, provide ground cover and mix well with other plants. They can also be grown in pots and containers.
Heathers are also loved by bees and winter flowering varieties provide a valuable source of food for bumble bees and solitary bees that don't store food, when little else is flowering but may emerge on warmer days in winter and early spring.
Heathers prefer a sunny position with moist, but free-draining acidic soil.
They are perfect for rock gardens or grown in combination with bulbs and shrubs.
We have a great selection of heathers at Morris's including a lovely range grown in our own nursery.
