Plant Of The Month March - Rhododendron
Known and loved for their spectacular spring flowers, Rhododendrons are very popular with gardeners looking for a specimen shrub. Some varieties can grow very large so bear this in mind when choosing a planting location.
Although the Rhododendron originated in the mountainous regions of Asia, they should be planted where they are sheltered from strong, cold winds. Avoid frost pockets and planting in very dry or waterlogged soil. They grow best in dappled shade. Rhododendrons prefer acid soils so dig in plenty of ericaceous compost when planting. Rhododendrons can also be grown in containers, dwarf varieties are particularly suitable for this purpose.
We have a wonderful selection of Rhododendrons in store at Morris's in a range of sizes and prices.
