Plant of the Month March - Camelia
With their beautiful showy blooms, Camelias remain a firm favourite with gardeners. They make ideal specimen shrubs for a spring display.
Originally a woodland plant, like Rhododendrons and Azaleas, Camelias thrive in acid soils with a generous application of leaf mulch. Plant in a sheltered place in partial sun. They will grow well in most positions but avoid East facing, as the morning sun can make their flowers and buds turn brown. Camelias also like to be shielded from cold winds and protected from frost.
Camelias can be grown in pots and containers. Choose an ericaceous compost for this and do not allow the pot to dry out.
We have a lovely selection of Camelias for sale at Morris's - new consignment just in. Lots of colours and varieties.
