plant of the month July - non-stop Begonia

These tuberous varieties of begonia really do flower 'non-stop' from May right the way through to first frosts. With their bright showy flowers and bushy habit they are a popular choice for planting in pots and tubs but can also be used very successfully planted direct in borders and are great for filling gaps in between other plants. They often have v attractive variegated foliage.

Non-stop Begonias will grow happily in shade or full sun, making them a very versatile plant. They need to be kept well watered in hot spells but should not be allowed to become waterlogged.

Although these plants are often treated as annuals it is possible to lift and store the tubers, store them in a cool, dry, frost free place overwinter and replant the following spring.
