Plant Of The Month - December - PoinSETTIA
A very popular house plant associated with Christmas in the UK, the Poinsettia originated in Mexico. It's easy to see why Poinsettias are so popular. Most often seen with bracts of fiery red, (but also found in white, pinks and orange), Poinsettias will brighten up any home during the dark winter months and they make great gifts and will flower for a long time if you keep them in the right conditions.
Caring for your Poinsettia
Keep the root ball slightly moist but avoid overwatering and feed the plant every 3-4 weeks with a low nitrogen, high potassium fertiliser.
Poinsettias enjoy light and warmth, but avoid placing them in strong sunlight or next to direct heat as this can cause them to wilt and die - they are better kept in a place with an even temperature rather than somewhere with big fluctuations of hot/cold. So keep them out of draughts and cold window sills.
